Planning a floorplan to suit your lifestyle (part 2)

By Gabrielle

Mapping your home before you build it is possibly the most important step in the architecture process. Your trusted Wellington architect experts at Moore Architecture are here to help you dream up that perfect floor plan with a few foolproof tips.

Travelling through your dream home

For this step, we want you to take some time to consider your current home as a map. What rooms do you use the most, and what areas in those rooms do you spend the most time in? Are there any aspects of annoyance you find when moving through your space? Does it take too long to travel to your bedroom, or are there walls that awkwardly separate spaces that you’d rather have joined? Take notes of improvements you’d like to make, and changes you’d like to see. Note the positives too: these are all vital pieces of info to your Wellington architect when it comes to planning your home.

The floor plan of your dream home should be perfect: it should flow exactly as you want it. This is why people approach architects when designing their dream home, after all – a perfect, custom design.

Take a tour: travel through your home without lifting a hammer

Thanks to our fantastic 3D design software, the team at Moore Architecture can create your dream home’s floor plan that’s free to travel through before you’ve even begun the build! After discussing your dream home’s floor plan in detail, we can put a 3D image of the building together for us to tour through with you. This way – should you wish to make any tweaks and changes – we’ll be able to apply them at very little cost…which is a luxury you wouldn’t be afforded had these changes popped up during the build.

A final note: furnishings

There are two ways you can go about bringing furniture into your new floor plan: sticking with what you’ve got, or buying brand new. If you’re sticking with your current furnishings, then be sure to take their measurements for us. We can work with the sizes of your furniture to create spaces in which they can snugly fit into. Perhaps you’re keen for a freshly furnished start? In that case, you and your Wellington Architect will have more freedom to design and detail without specific restrictions.

All things considered, your floor plan might prove a challenge, but with the help of a talented, experienced Wellington architect, you’ll be set for a beautifully-flowing dream home. Contact Moore Architecture today to start planning your dream home!
